While I actually like the logic of this suggestion,
and I don't mean to pick on it in particular, I'd like
to make a small point of order.
The syntax standard will not resolve if it comes down to
what people prefer. The whole problem has been that everyone
is attached to their own syntax, for good reasons in
every case.
To come to a consensus, the group will need an objective
measure that is orthogonal to personal preferences to
decide.
For instance, I suggested that c2's syntax could be
a good measure, as many of the more popular wikis
adhere to it for historical reasons. This is only
one option, though. The actual measure I don't really
care about as long as people can move beyond debating
the merits of their individually preferred syntaxes
in a fair process.
