I'm very excited to be a part of this event. It will be great to put a face with the many names I recognize from other communities and literature. It also gives me a likely excuse to duck out of my 20th high school reunion a bit early the weekend before. Other than seeing the '91 MLB All-Star Game in Toronto and a quick dip in Mexico while near Brownsville, I've never been out of country. --kmakice

Some Yadda Yadda about Kevin Makice

Kevin Makice has devoted much of the past decade to the pursuit of community on the Internet. Self-educated in internet programming, Kevin brought dozens of small businesses and non-profit organizations to the World Wide Web for the first time in the '90s as a freelance designer. He also served as the Web Services Coordinator for the Indiana University Kelley School of Business, a job which brought Kevin and his family to Bloomington, Indiana.

Kevin was the primary technical designer and programmer for TicketsNow.com, a brokerage for secondary-market entertainment tickets, from 1999 through 2004. He enrolled at Indiana University's School of Informatics in 2004 to pursue a Masters degree in Human-Computer Interaction. As part of a team of Informatics graduate students, Kevin won the CHI 2005 Student Competition for the design and presentation of mPath, a social networking system to increase meaningful connection between senior citizens, residence administrators and the community at large. PoliticWiki was a six-month research study using a wiki as a tool for political collaboration.

A former high school valedictorian and honored graduate of DePauw University, Kevin will remain at Indiana University to continue his education as a Ph.D. candidate in Informatics. His current interests lie between the domains of complex systems, computer-mediated communication and forum interface design.
