Abstract: We present knowIT, a collaborative database designed to manage the shared knowledge about Informatics Systems in a research organization. In this paper, we discuss requirements that emerged through years of use and we describe the challenges of migrating content from an existing relational database to a solution based on a Semantic MediaWiki. Finally, we review which customizations were required in order to improve user acceptance, both for editors and viewers. Our experience will serve as a case study for a pragmatic approach to knowledge management.
